Two diamonds
Hi friends,
Hope all of you are staying healthy & safe during this COVID-19 crisis. I read a short yet inspiring moral story last week that I wanted to share with my readers. The message that the story wants to convey is evident at it's end but that doesn't take away the importance of the message conveyed.
A merchant wanted to purchase a camel in the market and after spotting one, began to settle for a price with the seller. The merchant bought the camel and took it home. On reaching home, the merchant called his servant to remove the camel's saddle. Under the saddle, the servant found a small velvet bag which contained diamonds.
Servant: Sir, can you take a look at what I have found under the camel's saddle!
The merchant was also surprised when he saw the diamonds inside the velvet bag.
Merchant: These diamonds do not belong to me and I should return them immediately.
Servant: Let's keep it sir!! Nobody will know who the owner is.
However, the merchant did not listen to his servant and immediately reached the market and returned the velvet bag to the shopkeeper. The camel seller was very happy upon receiving the diamonds.
Seller: I forgot that I had hid my precious stones under the saddle. I am very grateful that you have returned them to me and now, you can choose any one diamond as a reward.
Merchant: I have paid the right price for the camel, hence I do not want this reward.
The more the merchant was refusing, the more the camel seller was insisting. Finally the merchant smiled and said,
Merchant: In fact, when I decided to bring back the bag, I had kept two of the most precious diamonds with myself.
After this confession, the camel seller became infuriated. He quickly emptied the bag and began to count the diamonds. After he finished counting, he breathed a heavy sigh of relief and said,
Seller: All my diamonds are here, what are the two diamonds that you are talking about?
Merchant: My honesty and self-respect!! 😁
The seller was dumbstruck 😕.
Merchant: Anyone who has these two diamonds (honesty & self-respect) is the richest person in the world 😉.
See you again with more such moral stories.
