Heads You Win...
Hi friends,
This post might appeal to avid readers who visit my blog. The title "Heads You Win" is a book written by renowned author Mr. Jeffrey Archer. It's about two brothers and their mother who escape from the Soviet Union. The brothers get separated when they escape and lead two very different lives. The writing beautifully brings the story to a full circle by narrating how the two lost brothers finally meet each other.
I enjoyed every aspect about the novel except the ending because it's perhaps too realistic. The ending was a shocking revelation to me because the bad guy in the story wins at the end (I don't want to spoil the ending for the readers who are yet to read this awesome book). I do not mind the baddie winning at the end but the way he won made me realize about the scheming people in our current world who would do anything to secure their own position (this is also the character of the antagonist in this book). My reason for dropping a post about this book is because I realized that the ending of this book took away the most important aspect a book should convey to it's reader, "Hope for a better future". Instead of the two brothers triumphing by working cohesively to change a corrupt system, the book makes the corrupt system winners in the end. I feel that whenever a reader finishes a book, it should empower the reader in one way or another, for example, to fight against injustice in this case. Instead this book gives us the opposite conclusion that no matter how hard you try to rally against an unjust system, the unjust system wins at the end.
The above post is my interpretation of this book's conclusion. Let me know what you make of this book's ending. If you haven't yet read this wonderful book, please read it!!
Thanks,
Thejas
P.S: Also read, Mr. Jeffrey Archer's-A Prisoner of Birth standalone novel. It's once of the best novels that I have ever read with the most satisfying conclusion for me till date.
